The One Little Thing that makes a BIG Impact at your Bar Mitzvah – and you’re doing it wrong!
Bar and Bat Mitzvah planning (shortened to B’Mitzvah these days) is supposed to be fun. And it is, really. You get to talk with your family about different themes, showcase your son or daughter’s personality and passions, pick colors and details and appetizers. You’ve got pinterest and facebook open right now, don’t you? Admit it, you’re looking for different Broadway décor ideas, checking out light shows and LED party favors. It’s great! But with the joy of choices comes the burden of stress.
All those individual choices start to blur together into one overwhelming tower of “fun”. You have to trim the guest list, you have to pick a venue, did you meet with the DJ yet, is that deposit check mailed? What song IS the perfect choice for candle lighting?! Is that song cheesy? Do people still do candle lighting? It’s easy to let little details slide just to make sure the important things get checked off your To Do list. Too much for one busy family to do alone.
Don’t Forget This One Thing
The easiest solution is to work with one event production company that handles all of that for you in one visit (yes, I’m plugging our company 84 West Events at 954-236-9000 since we specialize in handling everything for you. Can you blame me?) but while you’re doing that, don’t forget the one little thing that makes a big difference for your B’Mitzvah. You want this big, fun, and – let’s face it – expensive, once-in-a-lifetime milestone event to look amazing and be remembered by your friends and family for the creative blast that it was. But what is one unexpected way to make sure that happens?
The one little detail that can make that difference is an amazing logo for your event. Yes, a logo, the icon you see on every business’s product from soda cans to cereal boxes to purses and hey, even events like yours. A lot of B’Mitzvah families do pick logos for their event but they actually frequently do it wrong. And it’s not their fault!
Why a Bar Mitzvah Logo?
The first thing you should know is why companies use logos. Logos help a product or service stick out in someone’s mind from the competition. If I said the words Nike, Starbucks, or Target to you, there is a strong chance that their logos jump into your head. Those logos have been designed specifically for you to associate those companies with shoes, coffee, and home goods respectively. They help that company stand out. They give you an idea about the quality and personality behind the logo. A good logo can do that for your B’Mitzvah too!
What Can You Do with a Good Bar Mitzvah Logo?
There are three really great ways to use your Bar Mitzvah logo to set the tone for your celebration: invitations, décor, and party favors.
By including a good logo in your bar mitzvah invitations, you’re immediately piquing your guests’ interests and building excitement for your event. The logo can set the tone for that excitement and even hint at the theme without giving too much away. It also showcases your son or daughter’s personality.
The same can be said for using your logo in the décor. The logo should reflect your child and by using the logo around the room you are making them the real star of the evening. Even for the more introverted kids out there a logo can be a low-key design that still makes a big impact. Some creative ways to use the logo that look AMAZING include projected monogram/gobos, branded pillows on the lounge furniture, featured in the centerpieces, printed on huge backdrops behind the food stations, or incorporated into a show-stopping entrance. Not only will these touches WOW your guests but they’ll also be featured in your Mitzvah photography, which is great for your album.
The most common use for B’Mitzvah logos is on the party favors. They’re usually added to sweatshirts, boxer shorts, even socks and hats. Now the interesting thing is that this is where most people go wrong with the logo. And given the fantastic quality of favors out there right now, it can be an expensive mistake to use a bad logo.
Bar Mitzvah Logos – You’re Doing It Wrong
Personalized favors look AMAZING. I’ve seen some great sweatshirts and as a designer I especially love to see that people still turn to quality silkscreening to print fantastic products. But I have noticed that some families do make a classic mistake: not thinking of the end user. One of the most common complaints I hear about the more expensive favors (like sweatshirts, t-shirts, etc) is that kids will take them home and never wear them again, or worse – not take them at all. Why is that? Well if you’re picking a logo that is just your son or daughter’s name written in plain type with the formal date written out beneath it, you can guarantee that a lot of kids will probably skip the favors. Think about it – would your son or daughter wear a sweatshirt with someone else’s name in enormous letters on it? By making it too formal or too personal, you’re going to end up with a stiff design that doesn’t jump out at anyone.
So what’s the solution? Get creative with those logos! Incorporate the theme by making the logo look like a Broadway movie title. Use a cool abbreviation or monogram (like Louis Vuitton’s iconic patterns). Design it like a sport’s team logo. Incorporate the date creatively into the design so it doesn’t stick out too much or even better, skip the date all together. Make the logo pop by going with a graphic icon, or a vintage/retro distressed look. In short, make the logo cool and universally appealing and you’ll be seeing your son’s friends wearing the sweartshirts for months down the line (unless they hit a growth spurt!).
In the end, you should do what you and your child loves. That’s okay too! There’s nothing wrong with being traditional or not doing a logo at all. BUT, if you do want to go with a more modern approach, we’d love to talk to you about your event!
